myLot Discussions| Buying vacuum bags over dumping a canister | | I have a $30.00 vacuum I bought from Target. I use it and dump the canister. Nothing to it and done. My mother has that vacuum that cost over $1000 dollars. They come to your house and clean your carpet as a test. She even ruined her credit not paying for it. Now she and I are both on SSI. She has to buy bags to use her vacuum. She still has no bags for it. My sister has something like mine with a better name on it then mine. she always sends my nephews to borrow mine. I told them to get one like mine and be done with it. Is it that hard to live good and frugal? Do you pay a lot for your bags?
| | Have you used the Ziploc Vacuum Seal System yet? What do you think? | | It's super simple. Just a vacuum pump (no batteries required), and the special Ziploc baggies. They come in one quart and one gallon sizes. I've read a lot of dissenting opinions on this product. But, it's inexpensive, and after testing it, I've never had a problem. Are people just not reading the directions? Am I just Lucky? I'd love some feedback. | |
| | Are you sufficiently oxidized, sanitized and deodorized? | | This morning while shaving my arm pits I noticed I was out of toilet bowl cleaner. My shampoo is nearly gone - don't get me started on the conditioner, and the soap dish was emptier than my Lady Speed Stick. My razor is getting dull, the washer needs detergent and my box of Bounce Dryer Sheets has no bounce left. That was the bathroom. The kitchen actually scared me to death with all it's needy greedy demands for more dishwasher soap cakes, J-Clothes, drain fluid, chrome cleaner, vacuum bags, sponges, squeegies, window spray, furniture polish, polish remover, swiffer duster refills, paper towels, scouring pads, air fresheners,.... ad infinitum! That's it! I have enough! I can't take it anymore.
No more sanitizing, no more oxidizing and no more deodorizing! It's not that I despise housework and the expense of smelling like a daisy. It just dawned on me that if I let the hair on my body grow, and the dust bunnies copulate to their hearts content, and the splishes and splashes that cover my counters and appliances with greasy film remain glinting in the sunlight, the soon to be ex may just vacate the premises in record time and never...
| | Need tips for packing suitcase | | Does anyone have some good tips for packing for a plane trip. I'm leaving next week, and I would like to take one carry-on bag with enough clothes for a week. The last time I flew, I brought way too much stuff and it was a big hassle. | |
| | How often do you vacuum up important stuff? | | How often do you vacuum up important objects like coins or jewelry? Have you ever cut open a vacuum bag to get out something important like a ring or dollar bill? Today I was going over our tile floors with a vacuum (easier than sweeping and more thorough) and I accidentally vacuumed up some coins. Now, I know it's not really good for the engine, but it didn't seem to bother our electrolux vacuum. So, I guess I'm lucky. For a minute, I had this crazy notion that I would rip open the vacuum bag and retrieve the money. But, it didn't seem worth the effort just to get back thirty five cents. Anyway, I think I would have cut open the vacuum bag to get back a diamond ring (assuming I had one) or maybe a toy part for one of my kid's toys. Or, perhaps if I'd accidentally sucked up an important piece of paper (it happens) then I would go for a rescue mission. But other than that, the entire bag will end up in the trash. How important would something have to be, before you went through the extra effort to rescue something from the vacuum bag? | |
| | Back Home Again.... FINALLY!! | | Hubby and I got back last night around 11pm and we're dogged butt tired!! My hands are so dry from all the cleaning. My nephew really did a job on my parent’s house. It was an absolute pig sty! Hell, a pig is cleaner than that!! The stench was incredible!! Cat pee smell was everywhere!! UGH!! My nephew and his roommate couldn't have known what cleaning is or how to clean!! It took me four and a half hours to clean the half bath!! Four and a half hours!! There's just a sink and a toilet, that's it!! It was just that AWFUL!! Words cannot describe the filth. I found a dead mouse by the toilet!! UGH!! I told mom that there's no way in hell that I'm sleeping in that house until it's cleaned up because it's so gross!! I was going to sleep either in my car or use my credit card and get a room in town but thankfully, hubby shampooed the carpet after I vacuumed. We have an electrolux vacuum, one of the best in the world and we went through 5 vacuum bags!! Now do you have an idea how dirty it was?! GEE MEE MOSES!!!! There were about 25 to 30 trash bags outside by the time we got there!! I'm talking about lawn sized bags!! It was incredible!! Unbelievable!! Shampooing the carpet brought out... | |
| | bagless is better:) | | When my mom came to visit in May, I was looking for a vacuum cleaner that worked better than mine. I wanted the house to be nice and clean for her. But with two cats and a dog on top of the regular "messer-uppers" that are my kids. There always seemed to be stuff on the floor that needed to be picked up.
Now, i don't have carpets in my home, so I don't really need one of those top or the line vacuums. ANd I don't like those heave ones that leave my arm hurting after using them for a few minutes. I also don't like uprights too much.
My other vacuum was a nice little hoover that worked well, but with all the hair from pets - and kids LOL - I was spending a lot of money for bags.
I was at Canadian Tire one day when I saw a vacuum on sale. It was marked $39 which wasn't much at all considering that they usually start at $70. It was a bagless one too, which I had been considering so I didn't have to buy so many vacuum bags. It was small and lightweight just as I like and a cannister too instead of upright. The only thing is that I didn't recognize the brand at all. I have never heard of a Lancaster vacuum.
Still I could always try it and...
| | Does your husband know how to vacuum? | | Most times I don't bother to ask my husband to clean up the house. Like most guys he has no clue when something needs to be cleaned. Not that he doesn't know how to clean, he just doesn't recognize clutter as a pressing need to get off the couch and clean.
Nowadays, the only time my spouse volunteers to vacuum the house is when he buys me a new vacuum and wants to try it out. Other than that, he pretends he doesn't know how to use one. So yes, my husband can vacuum, but he chooses not to do so. That's alright, even if he did vacuum, I'd probably have to redo the job after he left the room anyway.
So, does your spouse know how to vacuum? Does he voluntarily offer to vacuum the carpet or floor without being asked?
| | I've got fleas...help!! | | I have two indoor cats and they got fleas. I put a flea collar around their necks and it didn't seem to make much of a difference. Then I heard someone saying how bad flea collars are and it is like putting a poisonous necklace on them. I immediately took them off and through them out. Then I try the drops on the back of the neck route. One cat tried to disown me and would get really distressed when it happened. Then I hear that this is dangerous and this stuff can kill your cat. I try the natural remedies, garlic, brewers yeast, lemon bath...I have salted the vacuum bags and the floors as I heard this will dry up the flea eggs and kill the fleas. I comb the cats and flush the fleas but still I keep finding more! I have powdered the cats in the past and they didn't like it but maybe I can find a natural powder. I don't like using chemicals when it can be avoided especially when it comes to my fur babies. What works for you in the flea department? Any suggestions would be great! | |
| | prevention & cause of asthama in children(parents must read) | | Many things can cause asthma symptoms to start; these are called triggers. Every child's asthma triggers are different. Sometimes it can be difficult to figure out exactly what your child's asthma triggers are. Work with your child's doctor or nurse to identify your child's specific triggers. It is important to try to control your child's exposure to the triggers that make his or her asthma worse.
Irritants and allergies are the two main types of asthma triggers:
Irritants
Irritants are substances that irritate the nose, throat, or airways. Common irritants include: • Cigarette smoke
• Strong smells
• Colds or other respiratory illnesses
• Chemicals
• Air pollutants
• Weather conditions
Allergies
Many children with asthma also have allergies, which can make asthma worse. With allergies, a child's immune system becomes sensitive to allergens, which can include: • pollen
• pet dander
• dust mites
• mold and mildew
• cockroaches
These allergens can increase inflammation (swelling) in the airways and trigger asthma. With continued inflammation, the airways become even more sensitive to triggers. Other triggers
